Trip Itinerary

Embark on an extraordinary mountain biking adventure across Iceland’s unparalleled landscapes on the country’s only point-to-point hut tour.

Day 1

Welcome to Iceland!

Arrive at Keflavik International Airport and transfer approximately 45 minutes to our hotel in Reykjavik. Today is yours to relax after your journey, assemble your bike, and explore the vibrant city of Reykjavik. You may choose to visit the renowned Blue Lagoon for a rejuvenating soak, enjoy a leisurely lunch, or explore the local shops and attractions at your own pace.

Day 2

Meet your guide. Transfer to the Highlands. Ride Reykjadalur Valley. Transfer to Landmannahellir.

Your guide will meet you at your Reykjavik hotel for a welcome orientation. From there, we’ll transfer an hour to Reykjadalur Valley in the Hellisheiði Mountain Range, where you’ll head out on a classic singletrack ride through one of Iceland’s most dynamic geothermal regions. After the ride, we’ll journey two hours along the south coast, venturing into the highlands through moss-covered lava fields and expansive black volcanic landscapes.

Day 3

Ride Landmannalaugar.

The stunning area of Landmannalaugar, famous for its palette of pastel-colored mountains. And the home of the most epic single tracks trails in Iceland. The word “undulant” is probably the best one to explain what characterize the rides here. We will have multiple 100 – 300m climbs and some shorts hike-a-bike sections during the day, always followed by a rewarding descents. In addition we will end the day by a soak in a warm natural pool.

Day 4

Ride Landmannalaugar.

We start our day by a very steep climb up a double track called “Pokahryggur”. A name given by the local farmers that used to put sand-filled bags under the tires of their jeeps to manage to ride up the road. The climb is rewarded by a descent on a remote mountain road through a landscape of impressive hot natural springs. We will drop down into valleys, crossing few cold rivers, enjoying a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains before joining our comfortable mountain hut.

Day 5

Ride to Markafljotsgljufur.

We ride past Torfahlaup Canyon where we find our way on a remote and breathtaking trail. Shredding around all day as we make our way to a remote and beautiful double-track that leads to the single-track of the Laugavegur route. Our mountain hut is situated by the edge of the deep canyon of Markafljotsgljufur. For our last night together in the mountains, we indulge ourselves with a traditionally dressed whole leg of lamb that will tickle the culinary delights of any gourmet aficionado.

Day 6

Ride Þórsmörk.

Today, we tackle some challenging singletrack, leading us through deep canyons, across desert sands, and over expansive lava fields en route to Þórsmörk Valley. This stunning valley is a mythical landscape of birch trees and ravines, framed by steep mountains beneath the slopes of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano. In the afternoon, we’ll transfer three hours back to Reykjavik and enjoy a final night out and farewell celebrations!

Day 7

The Big Mountain Bike Adventures Tectonic Treasures trip to Iceland was truly an adventure of a lifetime. The locations and terrain were out of this world with lots of variety from long single-track descents through steaming hills to natural hot springs, to climbing volcanos and chasing waterfalls.

Iceland trip — Epic! I recently completed Big Mountain Adventure's September trip to Iceland, and it truly was an epic adventure. A huge thanks to BMA and their local guides, Anna and Kolbeinn who made the trip unforgettable. I'd recommend this trip to anyone who's a solid mountain biker and loves adventure and exploring.

Iceland - trip of a lifetime!I took the Big Mountain trip to Iceland in September 2022, expecting a rainy slog across the centre of the country. The weather was phenomenal, but the highlights of the trip were the guides, scenery, and riding. Each day had options on distance as well as technical ability. I'm from the PNW, so none of the trails were "technical," but there were steeper sections that were optional. Each of the trails and days provided a unique experience. Hike-a-bike was there, but you were rewarded with amazing descents and sweeping views.

Iceland trip: Unforgettable! Back from the September 2018 Tectonic Treasurers Iceland adventure. It was tough to know what exactly to expect, but this trip was absolutely incredible. First, the logistics from the airport were super easy – we were picked up by a van and taken straight to the local office to build our bikes.
